Years ago, I coached Penny, a senior director who told me:

Why Start with Values?

After 3,000 hours coaching leaders across 40 countries, here’s what I know:

  • Skills aren’t enough. Hard skills get you noticed; values keep you trusted.

  • Authenticity matters. Leadership isn’t copy-paste—it’s lived from the inside out.

  • Values fuel resilience. When challenges hit, your values are the anchor that keeps you steady.

That’s why the values exercise is always one of the first I ask leaders to do.
And yet, I’m still surprised at how many adults have never discovered their values. No wonder they feel stressed and overwhelmed by constant disruption.
